An Encounter with History – Kołobrzeg

The city of Kołobrzeg is located in Pomerania on the beautiful Baltic coast, approximately halfway between the mouth of the Oder River and the city of Gdańsk.

Kołobrzeg looks back on a rich and eventful history. As early as around 1255, the city was granted town rights as one of the first settlements in Western Pomerania and also served as a bishop’s seat. Later, Kołobrzeg gained prominence as an important fortress city and played a significant role, particularly during the Napoleonic era.

Today, the city attracts numerous visitors and holidaymakers from all over Poland every year.

The Old Town delights visitors with a wide variety of architectural landmarks reflecting its religious, military, and spa heritage. Equally noteworthy is the region’s ideal microclimate, with over 1,800 hours of sunshine per year, which makes the approximately six-kilometre-long sandy beach especially attractive.
